205007 12 Posted October 20, 2006 has anyone had experience of streching tyres over wide rims? i know a lot of golf drivers go for this idea on euro style wide rims i need to know the ins and outs of it basically i.e can any tyre place do it? what tyres are best i.e ones with high or low sidewalls are any makes better i.e a bit stretchier etc any ideas would be great adam
Hilgie 16 2 Cars Posted October 20, 2006 any tyre place can do it...basically you choose a narrower tyre than you would on a certain wheel eg 175/50/15 on a 7J 15" rim or 195/40/16 on a 9J 16" rim

welshpug 1,675 Posted October 20, 2006 none whatsoever!! just looks good to some people!
hengti 2 Posted October 20, 2006 yikes is that not dangerous? ie. do you not stand a greater chance of losing the tyre from the rim if you lean on it?
DaveW 6 Posted October 20, 2006 What are the benifits? you can lower your Vdub to the ground

welshpug 1,675 Posted October 20, 2006 just use smaller wheels and lower profiles! rather dangerous on anything but a pure show car
Sam 4 Posted October 20, 2006 or 195/40/16 on a 9J 16" rim That's just suicidal! i run 195/45 on a 16x8 and its stretched enough!
pugrallye 0 Posted October 20, 2006 (edited) there are no benefits, other than to reduce rubbing on arches, and it may be frowned on in certain circles but on serously low profile tyres with virtually no 'give' its not overly dangerous... okay its not good practise, but it wont just 'fall off' life of tyre expectancy wont be great though as your over stressing the sidewall of the tyre likelyhood of bulges/deformations will be quite common. The larger the sidewall the stretchier the tyre, or more manipulative, i think with 30-40 profile tyres they are a pain in the arse to fit anyway, and taboo tyre fitting techniques ma have to be employed 'lighter gas ahem!!!' but basically they will keep pushing out til they hit the bead with enough air in them Edited October 20, 2006 by pugrallye
