Alastairh 47 Posted October 17, 2006 (edited) Ok before i start id like to point out this is my 1st full loom im taking on, so bare with me on any errors. Basically the 16v loom was removed from a known good Citroen Zx 16v (1993). The main plug that sits in the passenger side wing has 14 slots, and 13 working pins. The wires are un numbered, which is part of my problem I've figured out the following: (on the main plug) Pin 1 - Yellow - Starter Pin 2 - Green, to Brown box relay - Fuel pump Pin 3 - Black - Alternator Pin 4 - Beige - Oil pressure light. Pin 5 - Green - Blue Plug, seems to go Ecu temp sensor Pin 6 - Grey - Reverse Light Pin 7 - Grey - Reverse Light Pin 8 - Brown - Blue plug, seems to go Ecu temp sensor Pin 9 - Pink - Yellow Connector to rear oil related sensor? Pin 10 - Green - Yellow Connector to Rear oil related Sensor? (Same as 8) Pin 11 - Brown - Blue plug - Oil Temp on sump Pin 12 - Green - Oil Pressure, sensor nearest the Alternator? Pin 13 - Green - Joins up with a couple of other green to the ecu plug. Whats peoples thoughts/tips? Im a bit surprised to find the ecu temp sensor in with that lot. M@tt 77 Posted October 17, 2006 what plugs you got in you 1.9 at the mo then? have you got the brown multiplug ontop of the gearbox? and also the ones by the steering column if so get the wire numbers up of those and i'll have a bash at telling you what you need to go where
sonofsam 5 Posted October 17, 2006 Yeah not having wire numbers is a bitch aint it If you can get the correct wiring diagrams and ECU pinouts and be able to understand , then that will be of great benifit:) Does it have an injection double relay?
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted October 18, 2006 Not sure on the ZX wiring as the looms all vary, But a tip is that the blue sensor on the stat housing is not the ECU sensor it's the Green one
Alastairh 47 Posted October 18, 2006 (edited) Matt. Got the whole engine 205 loom from the 2 main plugs under the dash to all the sensors etc. the 8v loom isn't the problem really as even a quick search brings up this thread for the novice. Ooh that helps Miles, will have to look into that. As i was a bit bemused as to why the ecu temp sensor (or what i thought of it) was leading into the dash etc. So guess the blue plug will be coolant light or coolant meter, as thinking about it i still haven't got any coolant related wires yet. Miles 331 1 Cars Posted October 18, 2006 No idea why it changed, The GTi 6 and V6 engines are the same which Did surprize me when I was tracing all the wires Also there's a mix and match on the oil front, Some had oil temp and other's had oil pressure, The yellow plug is the oil level so the bin is the best place for that wire
sonofsam 5 Posted October 18, 2006 Blue plug on mine (MP3.2) is coolant meter .Pin 1 is wire 47c wich joins to 47a(Temp gauge) on 205 loom and pin 2 is 47b wich joins to temp light...if thats any help:)
maxi 36 1 Cars Posted October 18, 2006 (edited) Do yourself a favour and make things simple. The sensor wiring (dash) has nothing to do with actually making the engine run (management). Ignore that, all you want is a wiring diagram for the double relay, get your fuel pump, switched live, earth and constant live sorted. The engine will now run. Then, just use the 205 sensor loom with the appropriate connectors crimped on. All the spare wiring left on the 16v loom cut out and throw in the bin. Get the double relay diagram and spend some time with the continuity on the multimeter. TRUST ME. Maxi Edited October 18, 2006 by maxi
Alastairh 47 Posted October 18, 2006 Ok cheers, all the advice is good. Will have a crack at it tomorrow when im off work.
jackherer 543 Posted October 18, 2006 Then, just use the 205 sensor loom with the appropriate connectors crimped on. its better to make up a new sensor loom from the under dash brown multiplugs IMO, simply because most 205 sensor looms are brittle and corroded due to age. pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted October 19, 2006 ZX XU10J4 Haynes manual pages attached. Shouldn't be that bad, just the ZX is a bad donor to use imo because unless you relocate the ecu the loom needs extending. Graham. ZX_XU10J4.pdf
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted October 20, 2006 Alistair, I've been looking at the wiring diagram I've posted in the pdf above & it should be really simple to wire in. You need to find four wires maximum afaik & two of those are none essential to get it running. [rev counter (ecu pin 43) & K light(ecu pin2)] Find wire #32a from your 205's loom (small yellow wire that goes to tachymetric relay) & that needs to go to the wire from pin 2 of the double injection relay for the ignition switched live & you also need to find the fuel pump feed from the double relay (pin 9) & connect that with wire #76 (also goes to the tachymetric relay). The battery distribution box plug from the ZX should have either two or three wires coming from it & these are all the 12v feeds you need going by the wiring diagram. Keep the 205 sensor looms (replace any wires as required or as a whole if you want) but personally I'd keep them seperate from the ZX loom you have. Graham. willxs 0 Posted October 20, 2006 Im guessing the wiring loom for this is pretty similar to the 306 S16 one? 3.2 motronic management again. Will be doing the conversion soon and im useless when it comes to the wiring. so unless anyone wants to lend a helping hand round east mids area (lincs) ive got to have a crack at it by myself
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted October 20, 2006 Will, it should be almost identical to this, except you'll have numbers on the wires. Everything you need to do the loom is listed above, the wires you need to find & join into the 205 loom(except the K light) are at the tachymetric relay plug by the ecu but also run there from one of the brown multiplugs near the heater matrix. All you will need is a rev counter to swap into your clocks so it works from the ecu signal. Graham.
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted October 21, 2006 Have you done this yet Alistair? Graham.
Alastairh 47 Posted October 22, 2006 Cheers mate your a superstar. Not had the time yet. But will finish it off tomorrow. I'll let you know how i get on. Alastair
Alastairh 47 Posted November 9, 2006 (edited) Graham, quick update. Been having delays the car, as i was having gear box issues. But got a new box today from Anthony. So had the energy to finish off the loom. Using your tips and the multimeter have sourced all the wires in 20 minutes. Just need to find some heat shrink Alastair Edited November 9, 2006 by Alastairh
