WooDooUK 1 Posted October 17, 2006 (edited) Hi All, Next month im going to be using the 205 for its first road trip, Going to the Roger Ablert Clark Rally up north (scotland in places), Other than the obvious (spare tyre etc.) can anyone recomend any spares that a 205 GTI might need? Going to be around 1500 miles Thanks, Edited October 17, 2006 by WooDooUK
hengti 2 Posted October 17, 2006 (edited) this is always a tricky one, as you've no idea what might go wrong (if anything). best thing to do is to give the car a good going over before you go. then i'd just go through all my spare parts and take a selection of 'sensible' stuff - bulbs, leads, plugs, coolant hoses, jubilee clips, zip ties, duct tape etc ed. take it you're just spectating - ?! Edp 67 3 Cars Posted October 17, 2006 zip ties are a must and get you out of most situations. I would take a good socket and spanner set and some extra coolant too.
ALEX 98 1 Cars Posted October 17, 2006 A spare 205 would be handy! Or joint the AA/RAC etc...
inferno 1 Posted October 17, 2006 defo zip ties and gaffa tape! even if it is to tie the misses up in the boot and gag her when she moans about how shed like a more refined car! couple of screwdrivers/sockets anything more u wont have any room for her in the boot! Daxed 7 Posted October 17, 2006 My last drive in one of these beauties, with a siezed rear beam and a dubious tax disk, slightly wet and greasy roads, warranted keeping a spare pare of pants and trousers close to hand.
sonofsam 5 Posted October 17, 2006 I can see this turning into a parts list big enough to build a
smighall 1 Posted October 17, 2006 Tachy relay would be on my list.
hengti 2 Posted October 17, 2006 (edited) I can see this turning into a parts list big enough to build a 205 ha ha! that's the problem really! if you've not already got a selection of spare parts that you can choose from to take with you, there's a danger you'll end up spending a fortune on 'what if' parts! as it's a UK trip, at least make sure you've got good breakdown cover - if anything does happen, you're probably not going to be too far from somewhere you can get parts to fit with the tools you've taken (what tools to take is something else to think about!). do have a good look at it before you go though - especially stuff like coolant hoses, exhaust hangers, ignition system condition etc - just have a little think about what could go wrong and check it out accordingly. It's best to give it a full service and fix anything you spot though. It'll likely be fine then Edited October 17, 2006 by hengti
ORB 227 1 Cars Posted October 17, 2006 Plenty of fuel money Maybe a redex injection cleaner once in a while. i would do as the guys say: Full service, take it for a run. Have a good look. Fix ANYTHING that needs fixed (this is likely to be the complete car)
WooDooUK 1 Posted October 18, 2006 good poing about making sure i have air in the spare tyre, but first i need a spare tyre and a cage for it to sit in Im not to worried about it to be honest as i have RAC cover anyway. Im going to have to go get a spare tho. oh, and im going to be Marshaling the event. http://www.rogeralbertclarkrally.co.uk/

max0 5 Posted October 18, 2006 Think someone asked a simlar question when i joined the forum. think it was my first post. Take a metal coat hanger - in case something comes lose and dut tape/cable ties will melt, cloth will catch fire etc. Screen wash, i always have a 2L bottle of water in the boot. tom_m 0 Posted October 18, 2006 meh you'll be fine, i've done london to scotland with nothing more than a change of clothes. if its a regularly used and well maintained car you'll be fine, and you wouldn't be considering a road trip if it wasn't, so there you go.
