jerseypug 1 Posted October 14, 2006 had a problem with the ignition on my mi16 and found out it was the crank sensor that has been hit by something. replaced it with another and the same happened to it about half a mile later. the inside edge of the sensor that goes in the gearbox looks like it has been hit with a hammer. has anyone else had this problem? also has anyone got a spare one that they would like to sell? welshpug 1,657 Posted October 14, 2006 are you just shoving it in the hole? if so this will happen, you need to push it in till it hits the flywheel then pull it out 1mm. new TDC sensors have small tags on the end which wear away.
jerseypug 1 Posted October 14, 2006 just pushing it into the hole then tightening up the alen key that secures it down.
jackherer 543 Posted October 14, 2006 this can happen if the gearbox bolts come loose and the gearbox moves away from the engine.
jerseypug 1 Posted October 14, 2006 checked them and they are all tight. wondering if it could be a clutch dowl that has come loose
jackherer 543 Posted October 14, 2006 did it drive OK prior to the sensor failing? might be worth getting someone to turn it over while you look into the gearbox through the sensors hole to try to see whats hitting it.
chesney 0 Posted October 14, 2006 (edited) I've got a spare one. Had 2 but somebody has prov bought it. Trouble is it has no plug on the end. Simple enough to connect to your existing one as it just 3 wires. £10 plus postage I'd double check the box is evenly located on the block and nothing is trapped between the two. Or less likely but possible...there's something trapped inside that's loose and hitting it. Dropped any bolts down there recently?
