Bx16v Clocks

Ok so i've got my BX16v clocks (cheers toddman) and i had a trial run tonight at fitting them. They look spot on with the green dials and retro numbers but as always something won't work! :)

 

Everything works bar the oil pressure gauge which dosent do anything. I tried changing it for a 205 one but it just goes all the way to 8 bar and stays there.

 

There is a added PCB on the back of the Bx clocks which i gather from doing a forum search is for the oil level sensor on the back of the block. Now i'm not bothered about using that sensor i just want the oil pressure gauge to work.

did it work before you swapped the clocks?

 

does the needle back off to 5-6 bars after starting the engine?

why not pull off the black sticky bits off and stick them on the 205 panel, (after removing the black sticky bits off that one?

Cybernck: Yes, the dial rises to about 5 or 6 then when you start the engine it moves up to 8 bar and stays there.

 

Phil: Because then you dont get the green lights behind the dials. You will just get the 205 orange colour.

I swapped the platic bits below aswell I think, so it shows green.

I think the sender works slightly differently than the 205 one, C_W's posted about this as he has done it & he mentions it in this topic.

It's not just a straight swap though (which is what I thought it would be). The oil pressure guage was totally different (just maxed out on ignition on) and had an extra circuit board attached linked to an oil level indicator that is incorporated in the pressure gauge (cant see it unless its lit up). So I changed this for one off my old clocks and reset the needle.

i'm sure that with a bit of testing you could get both the oil pressure and oil level working.

 

certainly handy if your car has knackered valve stem seals too :).

Sorted it, i just swapped all the dials over from the bx clocks surround to the 205 one but kept the 205 oil pressure dial. Its a bit trial and error but it does work. I will get some pics up and show you what i mean.

So what you do is unscrew and swap all the dials from the bx surround (the top one in this picture) onto the 205 one (bottom)

Then you unsrew the oil pressure dial from the 205 clocks and secrew it back onto the bx one

Fix all dials back in place, re-positioning dials as needed, before screwing the dash back together i checked all the dials were reading correctly.

Hope this will help someone in the future. My next job now is to see why the tacho jumps about like its on acid. The wonderful world of 205 ownership.

That is cooool i want one. I'm no electrical expert, was it realativly easy or do you need to know a bit about wires and sh*t? also, did you keep the mileage or use the mileage from the bx?

You can swap the mileage over. Its pretty straight forward as long as your patient. You only have to undo tiny bolts and screws no wiring is involved.

 

I've manged to stop my tacho bouncing as much today too by replacing the drive which the speedo cable bolts into. The old one would hardly spin and was really tight. It stills bounces slighty but i think i can live with it for a while longer.
