yeti-dj 7 Posted October 13, 2006 hello, recently killed my little 205 turbo diesel engine by running out of coolant, not to happy at all... any way have just got hold a 405 turbo diesel engine but it has an intercooler on top of it and the problem now is that one of the pipes from the turbo to the intercooler needs to go pass where the fuel filter on the 205 sits so there is no room for it. question is does anybody have any cunning ideas how to get round this problem or should i save myself the hassle and just bin the intercooler? anybody know if the intercooler makes much of a difference? cheers for the help...... welshpug 1,657 Posted October 13, 2006 do you have an older 405 engine with a separate fuel filter? if so it is usually located on the side of the battery tray, so use the 405's fuel filter arrangememnt, OR if its a later engine its bolted to the top of the thermostat housing, so just re-route the hoses. and yes the intercooler makes a difference! yeti-dj 7 Posted October 13, 2006 just had a thought, can i use one of those in-line fuel filters or is that a real bad plan as it would help the problem i have with space??? thanks..

welshpug 1,657 Posted October 13, 2006 no other way round, later ones had the filter in a housing bolted on top of the thermostat. can you take a picture of the engine bay? Difference wont be that significant when cold but when it heats up you will lose efficiency (and that only takes a few minutes)
yeti-dj 7 Posted October 14, 2006 oops, your right its the early one with the seperate fuel filter. Anybody tell me how to add an image of the engine bay, not too good at this whole forum thing.. Did find a photo of one 205 with the intercooler but sems to have no fuel filter ,photo to follow as soon as i figure it out..
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted October 15, 2006 All 205 TD's have the fuel filter seperate to the head afaik, mine has & thats one made towards the end of the run (1994 STDT). For some reason Peugeot never fitted the thermostat housing with built in filter on the 205 TD or at least not that I've seen but they did on the n/a diesels. If at all possible I'd use the 405 filter bowl & re-route the diesel pipes to suit. Graham.
Guest BrainFluid Posted October 16, 2006 (edited) All very confusing! So. I take it that your 405 engine that you have put in your 205 has a seperate filter and not the one that sits ontop of the thermostat. If that is the case all that I can suggest is; A: Use your noggin and find somewhere in there that it does fit. B: Find a diesel 2o5 in the scrappy that has one of the fuel filters that sits in the back left corner of the engine bay (your standing at the front of the car facing the engine bay so the filter is at the back left corner) and fit that. C: Use an inline filter, in fact use 2 or 3 with a larger filter to start with progressivly going down to 5 microns at the end filter. BEWARE these will not remove water from your fuel and would need checking frequently even more so if you just used one in line filter. D: Like pugtorque says go find one of the 405 filter bowls and fit that. E: Couldnt you fit it in the same place but a bit lower, make up a spacer plate or somthing so it fits below the pipe? HtH, Nate. EDIT: Oh and with regards to your intercooler...If you dont use it you will have to reset the fueling on the pump but |I would do my upmost to keep it seen as it WILL make a big difference to the cars bhp, torque etc it would be a big shame not to. Can you please confirm after you have fitted the intercooler if the bonnet shuts or not even if you have to just remove some of the crap thats attached to the underside of the bonnet. Thanks man. Hi, PM Spychosimon, he's took a standard diesel out of a 205 and replaced it with a turbo diesel engine out of a 405. He can probably (well most certainly as I know he's been driving it for a while now as a daily drive) help you here. Regards, John
