Swapping Internals From One Block To Another

Recommended Posts

Guest rick03054

I'm thinking about rebuilding my tt engine, and being the tart that I am I fancy painting the block. I take it this is a lot easier with the engine stripped and a bare block in front of you? that's my thoughts anyway. In order to keep the engine apart for the least time possible (I can only really work on it at weekends) I thought I could strip the 1.6 thats in my garage, paint the block up all nice then just rebuild it using the tt parts.

Are there any pitfalls to doing this? other than having to change the engine code on the V5? Or am I aswell cleaning and painting the tt block when it's fully assembled before/after the rebuild?

Just make sure your new block is OK really, Thread's for the head bolts and the top of the block is flat and the Main bearings carriers are true as these blocks can warp slightly.

I'd just swap the engine numbers accross or don;t bother with it as most of the early ones fall off

Cool, I take it I'll have to drop it into an engine builder to check the main bearing carriers?

Will there be no issue with liner protrusion? This is one thing I can't seem to get my head around, I just can't see it (in my head) changing or being adjustable, but I can see how swapping liners between blocks may cause problems.

Give it a bash and see what happens I suppose.

Unfortunately it's the very intact and clear plate on my spare block! Which surprised me to be honest :P
