Rear Brake Line To Flexi-hose Connection

Is there anything special about the fitting at the flared end of the brake line where it joins onto the flexi-hose?

 

Me and a mate spent last Saturday trying to replace the rear brake line but found it kept leaking at the join. Any thoughts??? Car is a H plate 1.9 Gti

are these new solid lines?

it might not have been flared properly

 

sometimes you can get away with it by tightening them as much as poss

A dodgy flare is what we suspected, also the threaded connector appeared to be running out of thread before it was fully tightened. Do you need special connectors??

unions are available with different lengths of thread - maybe you need a longer one

I think you're right - I hadn't realised you could get different length unions!
