Is It Possible To Convert The 4 Stud To 5?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to convert the 4 stud to 5? As i can remember someone mentioning a while ago that hubs can be fitted with a five stud, from an old Citroen model.

The reason i ask, it increases the chances of finding the right wheels for my project.

Cheers.

The Pug 605 and the Citroen XM have 5-stud hubs.

It will be very difficult and will require lots of parts to be machined.

The front 5 stud hubs do fit the 205GTi 1.9 front hubcarrier and bearing (both have a 82mm bearing)

The rear 5 stud hub does not fit the 205 rear beam/bearing unfortunately. You might be able to use some parts of both and combine/machine to get it all fitted.

i converted my 4 stud to vr6 stud with the spacing built in.

not difficult, it will give you a wide range of wheels and ofsets.

Can't you just use some bolt-to-hub wheel spacers/adaptors? As most of the stuff is going to have too high an offset anyway?

Yes, sure you can. Most 5 stud wheels are meant to go on VWs (and have ET40) so you can get away with 25mm spacers (each side) and it will still look good.

i was thinking of doing this, but it looked to me that a hole or two would come too close to eachother.

cyman, do you have any pictures or drawings to show us?

This type of thing

I have seen a 205 1.9 with Volvo T5, 16" 5 studs fitted. The owner used one of the original holes and the others were spaced out around that.

yeah, but to me that looks like 4x100 to 5x120.

with 4x108 there's a problem with holes (nearly) overlapping, that's why i want to see them.

how safe are these spacers that carry the whole dynamic weight of the wheel anyway?

for my T16 i got "bolt-through" spacers with longer studs, so the wheels are still bolted (studded :P) to the hub.

imho it's a bit safer option, but it's impossible to make a convertor that way ofcourse :(.
