j-16 1 Posted October 8, 2006 Hi, My cars been sat unused in a shed on my farm for around 3 years!! I'm currently trying to sort it out and yesterday came to give it a wash but I as hard as I try i can't get it to shine like it used to - it just looks flat and dull. Before it was left unused I'd recently had it resprayed but this has been covered in an inch of dust and grime since then. Has anyone got any ideas of what I can do or if i have damaged the paint/laquer by leaving it so long? Cheers, James Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

welshpug 1,657 Posted October 8, 2006 nooo!!!, T-cut should be the last resort before a respray, try some Meguiars Clay and detailer spray, the paint will be covered in contaminants which the clay can pick up easily. what colour is it BTW? heres mine after a claying and a good hand wax and polish. Although theres alot more knowledgeable cleaning people on here than me, but thats what freinds and myself have used in the past on sorrentos. d-9 0 Posted October 8, 2006 (edited) I'd give it a clay/polish/wax before you try T-cut, but i'd be very surprised if it worked, my 309 has been clayed after being parked up for a year and thats dull as hell, needs a t-cutting really but dont have the time at the mo. If it was cellulose, then I'm not surprised it's lost it's shine after 3 years without any polishing. This type of paint needs regular maintainance to keep it looking good. A clay bar *may* help to remove some of the contaminants, but it'll need one hell of a good polish, preferably by machine, to get it shining again. If it was done in 2pack, then it might have been sprayed quickly, trapping loads of solvents, which have worked there way out and caused it to sink over time. Again, get the surface really clean and try polishing it, but if that's not enough, a machine buff with something like G3 should restore it, followed by a good sealer or wax. j-16 1 Posted October 13, 2006 (edited) Cheers for the advice guys. Yes it was resprayed in the original Sorrento not sure what type of paint though. I've already given it a good polish with Autoglym but it hasn't helped much- still not really any shine. I'll give a clay bar a go if not maybe a light t-cut.
