Cold Air

How have some people done it.

 

Vents?

 

Louvres?

 

Pipes?

 

Tilted Bonnets?

 

Which did people find best, and most value for money.

 

Because as soon as the bonnet is shut, the carbs are just breathing hot air. Which I know waps alot of power.

Few weeks time Ash I 'should' have a fair amount of whats on your list installed:D

 

Cold air ducts in driving light apertures feeding air to the air filter(heatsheilded) and also blowing over engine.

Cool louvres stamped bonnet vents on the rear of the bonnet to suck hot air out from over the turbo and increase air flow in the engine bay.

Slotted bumpers to increase air flow to the rad and intercooler.

 

Will let you know what difference's it may make :wacko:

I wanted to put ducts behind the fog lamps and have them feed upto the engine bay :)

I was thinking cutting an overal hole in the bonet just before the filters, and meshing it?

 

What do people recon to that?

 

Would it work?

 

What are the negatives with that idea?

I would think opening the bonnet in front of the filters has to be the quickest/easiest way of doing it but whats also important is letting hot air out again. On my Mi I will be using an auto bonnet and will also louvre at the back in front of the scuttle - that way you get more hot air leaving the engine bay allowing more cold in. It worked a treat on another car (not 205) although instead of louvres at the back I just lifted the bonnet. At the front it had a camaro/trans-am style airscoop though I doubt that'd work on a 205!

I have a scooby scoop which i am going to mount right above the carb filters on mine. If it works on a scooby intercooler then its got to do something for the filters.

It cost me £7 to lower the rad via B&Q, can't get cheaper than that :)

 

Took me a few hours to sort it.

 

Search the forum for "lowered rad" or "lowering" threads.

Cant do it on a 309 though can you.

 

As cross member at the bottom of the rad is alot thicker, so cant do it without moving the rad back, which I have not got room to do,

or cutting it out, which I do not think would do much for the rigidity of the car.

 

what do people recon to my meshed holes in the bonnet then.

 

Anyone done this?

Could you not lower the rad if you tilted it slightly, the top could stay where it is but the bottom could move backwards i would think.

the 2 hinge brackets on the these bonnets allow for a fair bit of adjustment . also the rubber strip can be removed on you're bonnet to allow even more flow from the engine bay over the top of the bulkhead and out.

the rubber segregates the engine compartment from the scuttle panel/compartment where the interior fan is . i guess its to stop heat and smell from the bay getting into the car .

but depends whether there is enough air flow, from above the radiator if you get what I mean.

Remember with carbs, too much direct cold air into them can afect performance, something to do with freezing fuel, or fuel being too cold IIRC.

 

It was mentioned on the forum a while back.
