Pugnut 9 1 Cars Posted October 5, 2006 it uses the vacuum from the engine . you'll need to start the engine to charge the little hidden vacuum reservior under the scuttle panel . this will give you enough suck for 2-3 openings,
ORB 227 1 Cars Posted October 5, 2006 Hmm, i had the engine running for about 5 mins, but it did not appear to get any better? what have I done
tom_m 0 Posted October 5, 2006 check the hose (under the scuttle panel) isn't worn away, mine got trashed by the windscreen wiper linkage!
Guest BrainFluid Posted October 5, 2006 Do you mean it wont seal shut or it wont open?
ORB 227 1 Cars Posted October 5, 2006 (edited) Tom M cool good start ok, so, what if it is not that? whats next on the agenda? BrainFluid, its not letting the pressure out, thus, hard to operate. Edited October 5, 2006 by ORB
Guest BrainFluid Posted October 5, 2006 Well I'm confused... When you close it the vacume pump sucks loads of air out which creates the tight seal. Then when you open it the handle breaks the seal some how and the vacume seal is broken. Thw way I see it is its never pressurised in the first place. Which of the two are you having trouble with? welshpug 1,657 Posted October 5, 2006 thought it was tother way round, close it and the seal pumps up to seal?
ORB 227 1 Cars Posted October 5, 2006 lol its just not letting the pressure out but then again, its not exactly as tight as it should be as i can still move it with a bit of grunt?
Simes 248 2 Cars Posted October 5, 2006 Do you mean you cannot open it? There is also a failsafe lock that is cable operated. This can work loose - remove the interior light and check.
Guest BrainFluid Posted October 5, 2006 Haynes says; The handle operates a vacuum seal system which holds and seals the sunroof in any desired position. The vacuum seal is operated by engine vacuum. With the handle shut, the vacuum valve is closed and the seal exerts pressure under the the periphery of the glass. When the handle is opened, the vacuum valve opens and causes the seal to collapse, enabling the glass to be moved. Make of that what you will, lol, its the 'vacuum' part with always lead me to belive that suction is the cause of the seal... In any evet it sounds like your vacuum valve is failing to open. Pugnut 9 1 Cars Posted October 5, 2006 the vacuum sucks the the seal down clear of the roof so you can slide it. if you think about it how could a VACUUM push the seal up against the glass??
welshpug 1,657 Posted October 5, 2006 my thoughts exactly
ORB 227 1 Cars Posted October 5, 2006 yeah, i can, but the vachuum is not opening nor closing, its just staying put....
Pugnut 9 1 Cars Posted October 5, 2006 did you give the engine a good rev whe you started it for 5 mins ? the vacuum tees off of the brake servo line . it goes through a check valve then into the reservior under the scuttle panel before it goes up to the sunroof. ORB 227 1 Cars Posted October 5, 2006 coolies so, some revvage would help? i did give it some licks, but not mega go go.....
Dream Weaver 2 Posted October 6, 2006 It shouldn't need much revs. Check the non return valve under the bonnet. Its at the back near the brake servo and mine is blue and black, teed off the servo pipe. Take it off and makre sure its working, then check pipes to the box under the scuttle the other side. After that check the handle mechanism
ORB 227 1 Cars Posted October 6, 2006 YAY!!! I found the pipe near the brake master under the bonnet, one of the pipes came off the T put back on and away she goes, as good as she ever was Thanks chaps Have a beer on me
