jerseypug 1 Posted October 4, 2006 just about to put the head back on and read in the haynes manual that it sais not to forget to put the left hand spacer for the head bolt. i have 10 spacers that look like small cotten reels. i put these in one for each head bolt but the exhaust side hole next to the cambelt seems to be shallower. it looks the same height without the spacer as the others do with the spacers in. any help would be much appreciated. Jonmurgie 2 Posted October 4, 2006 I didn't think every head bolt hole had as spacer, just the 2 on the pulley end of the engine?! How have you ended up with ten? The spacer is needed on that side do the bolts don't bottom out, the others are OK as they actually pop out the bottom of their threaded holes...
Sandy 191 Posted October 4, 2006 That hole is shallower because the water pump is beneath it, use spacers in all of them.
jerseypug 1 Posted October 4, 2006 thanks, just checked on http://www.stuartmcguire.co.uk/pug/GB/405F/0/02A40A.HTM and it shows 10 spacers.
Gavtrials 0 Posted October 5, 2006 glad u got that rite as i no a few people who have had a nasty surprise when they tightened that bolt down with only one spacer and cracked the block!!

phatgti 0 Posted October 7, 2006 I did this once and heard that awful sound as it cracked the block - we ended up tig welding the hole and using block seal - worked fine.
