Thermostat-housing 16v Heads

Recommended Posts

Hi friends,

my XU10J4R head has got a s*it thermostat-housing, because the hose-connectors goes to the left and not to the front.

My question is now, can I put the XU9J4 thermostat-housing to the XU10J4R head? Or is the bolt-pattern different or does it not fit?

Thanks for help

Cheers

Jan

Hi,

I've got a 2.0 Mi, but I replaced the housing for these reasons:

1. Extra water pipe from the back of the housing to the engine distribution block

2. Vaccum pump wasn't required

3. Wanted to use a late 8v coil.

So I got a late (non dizzy) 8v housing as the coil fits on the end.

I drilled out the holes to accept the larger Mi ones rather than the smaller

8v ones (cant remember the size - M6 and M5's respectively I think).

I used some blue RTV for a gasket, and job done........

Hopefully not to far off topic , ive seen the 8v thermostat housing and the 8v dizzy set up on the 16v XU9 J4 engine ,saves buying those adaptor's to use the 8v dizzy !

I wont use the dizzy set up as im going KMS - coil pack ..

I got mine from a ZX I think for my 2.0 Mi (had a 1.9 Mi housing originally).

Most of the fixings lined up, there were some redundant fixing points though.

I could take a picture if you'd like?

Dug out the Retro mag ,it doesnt list what car its from but the article is in the February 2005 issue (Grey integrale front cover) Escape to Victory 200 bhp 16v 205 page 53 .The dizzy cap is held in place by clips rather than the 2 bolts like my 1989 205 1.9 gti. Ducillier or bosch i dont know ?although i can see the ignition amplifier's still in use and it looks identical to mine fitted on my 205 .The dizzy cap looks like its positioned advanced as the vac units almost on top of the unit rather than underneath .

Just think about it...

if there is no thermostat-housing available, I will do a flange with my plasma-cutter, then welding 90° bend on it... and then I´ve to do fitting the thermostat (I think making to flanges and put the thermostat between the both ones)....

Will try it :)
