yes,yes ive done the search and the reading!!

i would like a road legal lightweight bonnet

i know jon has one of the carbon fibre variety along with sean

i think i read that you chaps got them of andy kirk

are they still available, are they a safe option for road use i,e passing mot etc

i know this has been covered many times, its just that things change over time so i thought it would be wise to ask

now ive seen some where that is glass fibre ones also available, are they road legal and do they paint awell as a normal

i would really prefer the auto bonnet style

im just trying to shave a few kgs of the front end

help!!!

cheers gaz

if it's for a road car i think the better option is lightening the existing bonnet by cutting the internals. FG or CF ones are not really suited to road cars as they can be opened far too easily etc. You might be able to get locking pins etc. Plus these types dont fit as well and flex at high speeds

Like Sean said the cf and fg aren't really suited for the road. Think im right in saying that the auto bonnets have little strengthening to start with? Mine has next to none. If not fg ones are often on eBay, including auto ones.

I don't think Andy Kirk does them any more... but there are other places that do, try a search

Agree with the 'not for road car' thing really, I do have a pair of locking bonnet pins on mine as that's about the best you can do to try and prevent sticky fingers robbing stuff (a big concern now due to whats in there!).

Also, I found that they can flap at speed... not fun! So I've had to fit 6 pins, one at each corner and one in the centre front and back. Does sort it but it's a pain really.

Light though, 3kg's :D

a friend of mine has a carbon bonnet on a road going 205. it has locks so cant be opened easily, passes MOTs and it doesn't flex/flap abuot at all.

well thanks for input chaps

i certainly dont want any bonnet slap at high speed as when they go its a no win situation :o

so im thinking that puts the carbon bonnet out of the running

where does this leave the fibre glass auto bonnet have they got a strengthing frame or are they just a flimsy skin?

i dont know where to look for these fibre glass bonnets any help would be nice

cheers gaz
