Fitting An Mocal Oil Cooler On Mi16 Where?

Recommended Posts

richystran

Just bought an mocal oil cooler on ebay for my 205 mi16 on ebay look here > http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...N%3AIT&rd=1

Was wondering where i would fit it on the car and if anyone has any pic they would be appriciated?

Also would i be right in thinking that i would need about a litre more oil in my engine for this?

Thanks in advance

Richy

I took my mocal oil cooler of as the oil would not get up to temp and run without one.

If rad is tilted then mount it at the bottom between rad and sump just need to make a couple of brackets.

If rad is not tilted the hoses will run round the side of the rad and mount in front of rad were a 1.9 8v one whould be.

It will take more oil just fill up as normal run engine till warm and check the levle.

I've fitted my cooler infront of the rad... though I'm not using the original fan so I guess you can't put it right where I have:

Mine's routed round the side of the rad, then zip tied on to the grill on the valance to be right in the air flow.

It's a 13 row like that one, and with a tin sump I get oil temps on the second bar (first big one) with normal driving, btu takes a good 15mins to warm up then with all out track abuse can make the 3/4's but that as nly anglesea all the others have been the 12 O'clock position.

If it does run cold, some foil to block air flow works nicely ;)

Do you not use a thermostat in the oil cooling system?

Nope, just an open take off, just trim it to suit, think with the weather getting colder i'll end up covering it for the winter, esp as I'm moving to a alloy sump on the RS engine now

I was talking about these earlier with my friend who has one on his Sunbeam rally car, was saying it has an thermostat, do the standard 1.9 oil coolers not even run one?

The standard 1900 coolers are always open IIRC.

Sean, does it do a good job mounted behind the Rad?

It certainly does, it was driven hard at anglesey, but I don't have the specifics. I'm looking into the logging facility with KMS to see if it can provide max figures etc..

I'm led to believe you dont want to overcool the oil, therefore running at the front might be counter productive, and water temps are paramount
