Wire Identification

Recommended Posts

When I fitted the Mi16 into my 205 it was pulled out of a 309 so had already had the loom converted to clip straight into the 2 brown multiplugs under the steering column in the 205 main loom so I totally didn't have to think about it at all!

Now that I'm going for a new engine loom I wanted to just confirm exactly what each of the wires in the clips are for so we can wire in the new loom correclty. So could anyone with far more knowledge that myself confirm the following wires:

I've numbered them for easy reference.

Cheers for your help guys :mellow:

Cheers buddy... that's fantastic :mellow:

On the 6 pin plug I only have 5 wiresso am I missing the Coolant Fluid Level then? I'm sure I've seen the light work!

I've seen the numbers on the wires, but previous atempts on other wires to locate and identify them in the Haynes Manual failed miserably :ph34r:

Jon, some of the looms have the starter and positive wires swapped round, so my long brown plug had the starter wire through it (46B) and my smaller brown plug had the switched positive supply through it (2)

And mine were different colours as well :mellow: Wire 2 on mine was red, 46B was light blue.

I didn't have the coolant level thing either on the small plug, just fuel pump (76), tacho (112) earth (141) and positive supply (2).

See you've taken that out of context... I mean far more knowledge about WIRING as it's not something I profess to even know the first thing about, I leave that for the wiring experts :D

tbh, you could have found it in 1 min by using search.

Well I wasn't sure on the search TBH and I thought a nice clear picture would be handy for any future searches... still, done now so :D

Only just remembered about this (after AlistairH linked to this topic).

The plug pictured above & the list from Sam don't match.

You can see the fuel pump wire (#76) is in pin 1 on the plug.

You then have;

  • Earth (green & yellow)
  • Rev counter wire (112B).
  • The thin red wire (74a) comes out the other side of the plug as wire 32a.
  • Thick red wire goes in as 2 & out as 2a to the coil

The nine pin plug sounds right but the order & one of wires is different on the two looms I have neaby from 1991 cars but the list below is from the complete loom I have out for fitting with the MM8P but from the engine side of the plug;

  • Pin 1; wire #52.
  • [Pin 2; wire #53.
  • Pin 3; wire #47.
  • Pin 4; wire #47A
  • Pin 5; wire #7A.
  • Pin 6; wire #30.
  • Pin 7; wire #30A.
  • Pin 8; wire # 30B.
  • Pin 9; wire # 46B

Which match Sam's list except for pin 9 which on mine are the starter motor solenoid wire which I've just checked on the car.

Graham.
