i have a 205 gti6 which is running the gti6 manifold mated to the standard 19 gti system.i have read that the standard 19 system is good for 160 bhp.

so im at the point where im looking for a system to be made to suit.

i dont really wont a powerflow system, just not my thing really,

i want a system that will produce good flow as im hoping to go down the throttle bodie route next spring

cheers gaz

I would've thought the standard 205 system is fine for a standard engine, but obviously if you want something a bit more free-er flowing there's plenty of after market exhausts on the market, ie. Magnex, so obviously don't need something made as i'm pretty sure the GTi6 manifold isn't that hard to mate to a standard system, much the same as an Mi16 is. Unless you really are after something to match you're engine's modifications etc.

Well I've used the Magnex system for my car upto 200bhp so far, and will be using that on the new engine too so that's one option. However, if I were to buy again (and I'm going to have to soon) I will be going for this:

ExhaustPic1.jpg

This is a system on offer by Des Developments (as seen on Seans recents trackcar build) and the options/pricing are as follows:

GpN 2" with single 8"x4" straight through back box = £200+VAT

GpA 2 1/2" with single 8"x4" straight through back box = £220+VAT

GpA 2 1/2" with 8"x4" straight through back box and 4" round centre box = £240+VAT

The exhausts have been proven on vehicles from high powered Mi16's up to 225bhp through to stock hatch rallycross cars and are proven to flow well in high power applications and meet track day / competition noise limits (GpA with single silencer excluded).

For more information contact DES Developments

I was under the impression the standard Gti6 exhaust has a bigger bore than the 205 item.

I am looking for a new quieter exhaust so I don't have to worry about noise limits at trackdays, also the induction noise on the 6 is awesome anyway.

I currently have the following:

Custom (read rubbish) PPM 4 into 1 manifold, adds 20bhp.........err

Piper 4'' slash cut back box

Centre section made to fit between

When I had the car on a RR it made 137lb/ft of torque, most 6's make around 150lb/ft, I think the loss is down to the manifold.

I have bought a standard GTI6 manifold to go on and was going to get a centre section and back box to suit, the above DES one seems quite good, but I don't think it will match up to the manifold without some sort of link pipe.

The outlet of the GTi6 manifold is 2.5" but I'd still reduce down to a 2.25" system, the same concept as the pic. above. If you find it still too noisey fit a 2" tailpipe. You loose too much low end torque with a 2.5" system and they're too noisey.

well i did have the des groupA but the quieter og the two

after reading petert last comments regarding the loss of torque im left head scratching again

garry i have spoke to des developments and they have offered to fit there system to the gti6 manifold for me to the tune of 300+ vat

which i think is quite good really

but like i said im left scratching my head after petert comments, as he has knoledge of these things

still i shout a cry for help!!!

I asked DES how bad the noice from the group A system was and he told me he would put it in the " noisy" section. I've asking around and for my gti6 project we'll be using the stdt 6 manifold, a custom 2,5 inch downpipe and a Remus kind of small backbox to end. Only thing we don't know yet is if we'll use a 60 mm or 54 mm middle box. I AM planning to use the biggest sound-eating centre box to lose as much noise as possible.

I had a quote from our local SS exhaust builder. They quoted me over 1.000 euro's from downpipe to backbox......they realy make good exhausts but a tad pricy I might add.
