Rom 0 Posted September 27, 2006 Hi guys So i was cleaning up my manifold tonight, had a little look inside my TB, wasnt planning on doing anything today on it, just curious. This is what i found,is this replacable ? Or should i just source another TB ? Chris
boombang 2 Posted September 27, 2006 Shouldn't their be a screw in there? Reminds me of a guy who took a car somewhere and had the bottom end rebuilt as it was rattling away. On startup after rebuild it was exactly the same - on head removal there was a very small little screw in cylinder 3.

Is on the throttle mech spindle, so allows play in the mech. Lucky i noticed now, rather than when i was almost ready to put it in Im guessing its going to be easier to get another TB, then replace the parts. Just wanted to ask. Jonmurgie 2 Posted September 27, 2006 Well it looks bust as well as a screw missing... not worth the risk so I'd locate another one if I were you

Baz 421 Posted September 28, 2006 (edited) ooh!! So it's not rare then!! Mine was like this, made the throttle linkage awfully loose too, thats how i spotted it. Had to change the whole TB tho. Edited September 28, 2006 by BazGTMi

Mine has developed a little top end rattle since too, was hoping it's just a lazy lifter, hopefully cured when i do an oil change. Fingers crossed then eh!! boombang 2 Posted September 28, 2006 This had been squashed flat, marked the piston and take a small amount of material out of the head - as his budget was very low (and just paid for a bottom end rebuild!) IIRC the head internals were cleaned up to remove and sharp edges that could cause excess heat + detonation and put back together. Worked absolutely fine and although not ideal for a race engine he got away with it! Its damn scary though and not fixable with lock-wire. I'll be lock-tighting mine in I think..=

jim21070 2 Posted September 29, 2006 I reckon it's not beyond salvage you know, provided the TB bore and butterfly is undamaged. A little lathe work should be able to turn up a new shaft. As this now seems a common problem, along with air leaks on the butterfly shaft, it might well be worth an experiment. If anyone fancies sending me a duff (and sacrificial) TB, then I'll be more than happy to have a go at repairing it. PM me if interested...
