Scoobie With Very High Oil Pressure

A mate has been borrowing a scoobie while back from oz

 

today he noticed the car has very high oil pressure, and it hits the top end of the scale when blipped.

 

any ideas what this might be?

he quoted 100 as being the top of the scale.

 

i don't know if the top of the scale is too high, i calmed him a little by saying higher is better in most situations, but i've not come across an engine that tops out the scale, so could not say for certain.

well its not the 3rd big end, cause that would cause a drop in pressure, it sounds like (from a search) that it could be the sender, or the release valve.

Thats probably 100 psi, which is 6-7 bar. nothing wrong with that.

 

My 205 sits a 6 bar when cold and on more than 2500rpm.

 

All of this is assuming the guages are accurate.

Only two things can cause abnormally high oil pressure that didn't manifest before. Thick oil or a stuck pressure release valve. Of course it could just be a faulty gauge. If it's high enough to pump up the hydraulic lifters then the valves won't shut properly and will either burn out or the engine will stop running.

scoobynet used to be a great place - plenty of us on here were early users of the site.

As the cars have got older and the site has got much larger the general tone of the place has dropped massively. It used to be a site for enthusiastic enthusiasts like 205GTidrivers. That's been hugely diluted unfortunately.

 

I'd stick to using the search button rather than posting new topics.
