Idle Huntin And Drinking Fuel

Recommended Posts

sunil_2.0Fiesta

Hi,

Just bought a nice clean 1.6 GTI. It seems to hunt at idle and sometimes cuts out. It is also drinking fuel and you can really smell its running rich. Does this sound like an air flow metre problem? If so are the 1.6/1.9 air flow metres the same?? could it be anything else cauing this??

wanted list removed due to member group.

Does sound like an AFM problem. 1.6 and 1.9 afm are different. You could try retracking your one first. There is a good guide somewhere on here (do a search).

Would not bother with an aftermarket exhaust as the standard one is very good and can be had cheap second hand (if yours is corroded)

What nutter put a cone filter above the exhaust? :D Deffo want to get that fixed asap.

Before you spend any money on bits you might not need, take the whle of the intake system apart & give it all a thorough cleanout with carb cleaner. Pipes, AFM & throttle body, including the idle speed screw & bypass.

There is a guide to making the induction shortner kit to move you filter away from above the exhaust manifold & cleaning the intake system out on 205GTiDrivers.com in the articles section here.

Yes, you've read & agreed to the forum rules in which it states

Passengers: level for approved new users which enables them access to most of the

forums and functions. they are NOT ABLE to post new threads in For Sale and Wanted

forums until they've reached the Drivers user level

but this also means you aren't allowed to post them in any other section either.

Any seen will be removed & your warn level increased if they are posted repeatedly.

Graham.
