Tt Engine Is Going In Cti.... But What Engine To Replace?

Recommended Posts

adrian_gti

Hey guys,

Finally had both cars taken away to promax.. they have almost finished upgrading the Dimma TT with the hybrid turbo and other bits and bobs. My silver TT is having an engine rebuild and the engine will be dropped into my GFs CTi.

I'm not sure what engine to put in my silver car now.. I would like to do something a little crazy like putting a subaru impreza wrx engine in there. The guys at promax are confident they could do the conversion if they could get the engine to fit... I only had a quick chat to them about it as I was in a rush.

I was thinking of going the mi16 turbo route but for some reason I would love to stick a jap engine in there and it would be a 1 off i think? the guys at promax know the impreza engines like the backs of their hands so they are deffo the people to do it..... if it's possible.

What do you guys think about this idea? do you think the engine would wreck the handling of the car? Any pros cons?

this is just my opinion but I'd rather stick with a pug engine, so Id want an EW10 lump.

Something a bit different that has been done once or twice before but not in this country, 180bhp straight off (more if you take into account the removal of the cat and major shortening of the system :P

rotary engines are smaller :D

The boxer engine is small though so I would say it would fit. But it all depends on what you go gearbox wise as a big gearbox may push the engine too far forward. - But then really you want RWD :)

I'd go for Honda VTEC power.

how abouot an an sr20det out of a pulsar, its transverse and has throttle bodies, good for 280bhp at 1.0bar using standard ignition and fuelling.

Plus it comes with the transfer box to the rear for a 4x4 conversion.

I've always fancied having a WRX engine in a 205, but with the exterior totally standard - imagine having the flat four burble and 280bhp in a std 205 - would confuse many people :D

yer it's the "burble" thats making me want to do it too. I'm deffo gonna go RWD. I'm not sure what running gear will fit though.

Whats an EW10 lump?

Whats an EW10 lump?

EW10 (16 valver)can be found in 206GTi, and 307. one is 138bhp and the latest from 206RC 180 has about 180bhp. you can also get the EW12 from 307 which is about the same size as EW10 but with 2,200cc.

my friend is racing the 307s, the EW10 engine also suffers oil surge problem although not as bad as XU9J4. with Peugeot Sport baffles and custom made oil pump (much higher pressure and can withstand much higher rev) helps only a bit. comparing to the honda's vtec engines (b16a, b16b, b18c and the latest k20a), peugeot engine really is a nightmare. you need no special mod to the sump and pump but you still get full protection.

so, if you are planning to do a lot of track practice with semi-slick, EW series is not a good choice.

yeah EJ20 wrx lump will fit in a 205 no probs, obviously transmission tunnel will need widening but shouldnt be too much of an issue

seen that B18A 306 in a magazine, it might be fun to do such conversion but the Civic EK9 and Integra DC2 are already very great both engine and chassis, so why bother. the sump design of both cars are very simple and effective. the oil pick up area is a small and low area, very much like a well. so it collects oil in a well behaved manner no matter how hard you are cornering, without any baffle. the oil pump can withstand bashing around 9,000rpm and staying there forever without doubt, but the peugeot's pump can't stay there for long before dying.

will that boxer engine be too wide for such small engine bay? imagine if it fits, will changing spark plugs needs removing the engine first?

Yeah, I would of thought the chassis legs would be to narrow to be far for a scooby engine, Why not stick a V6 in the back? there good for 500bhp+ with the added bonus of thicker driveshafts and increased torque for Rwd.

Engine+gearbox £350-700

Management £350-1000 (option)

Seamless tubing and rollcage £500

406 running gear (subframe, drivshafts and hubs) £100

Misc parts (radiator etc) £200

Labour £3000-6000

I mesured my scooby engine and measured the chassis legs and its tight yes but i reckon with some tunnel / bulkhead mos it will go in.

Sprak plug change would require engine out yes but hey if your going to that trouble then build it so its easy to get the engine out!

This is a dream of mine and something that myself and a friend have considered before but never got off the ground. Would be totally amazing to see this happen. Awaiting in awe.

well engine is out of car now and being rebuilt ready to be dropped into my GFs CTi... she doesnt even know about it yet! Hope she likes it heh

I'm having the shell brought back to me tomorrow so I can strip it and put the interior in my Dimma. I'm hoping the engine rebuild will take a while so I can save up some cash... I'm also hoping that promax will want to do the complete conversion as I know they are busy guys.

When you say engine out job just to change spark plugs... that scares me a bit :D

Do you think there is anyway round this?

Also any ideas on running gear to get the car RWD?

cant wait to get my shell back :P;)

Stick to XU engines for 205's, anything else will make a mockery of the 205's tremendous driving feeback and feel. Having said that, Magic managed 441bhp with his CTi-T16 and that will destroy pretty much anything this side of £100k and beyond! BBBBAAAARRRRPPPPPPP!!!!!

TTs are quick... but not quick enough. I've always wanted a jap motor (EJ20 is a jap?) but didnt really want a jap car. Sounds like the perfect combo to me. I agree it will probably change the feel of the car but I'll be keeping my other 205s for when I need a fix ;)

Was magics car FWD?

promax motorsport are based in Llanelli about 5 mins drive from my house. I'm not sure if they have garages anywhere else. They specialise in rallying and from what I have heard are pretty good at it. They used to have a website but I cant seem to find it.

They are a little slow doing the jobs mostly because they have a huge place full of evos and scoobys and the odd skyline and are always working on them... this suits me though as it gives me a chance to save cash. I'm sure if you asked them to do the job quickly they would.

btw I had the compression tests back today from the TT that needs a rebuild. 2 cylinders were under 100 whatever that means... anyone able to explain?

I wonder if you could mount the engine in a way that you could actually drop it slightly so that the heads came below the chassis legs and hence could change the spark plugs that way. Its gonna be a huge project anyways so its worth exploring the options from the start. maybe a few ideas could come from the guys who are building rear engined cars etc as they would be in the know about ways of mounting engines and space framing etc.

i would say an evo engine and running gear would be better suited ;)

had a look last night on ebay though (dangerous place) and just for the engine and drivetrain your talking £4k :P

It can become pretty expensive when you decide to fit a non Peugeot/Citroen group motor!

Yeah Magic's was front wheel drive.

Will Gollop proved 700 bhp is possible from a 16v turbo XU lump.

i thought anything over 270bhp is sort of useless as you cant get the power down?

what mods did will have to get that? how reliable would that be? :)
