So, just to confirm.... I connect one hose from the oil cap and block the other one off. The other input to the catch tank is from the breather on top of the rocker cover?

only if you're running an MI, if you're running an 8v just hook up the fat hose from the filler cap to it and block everything else off.

or if you want some negative pressure in the catch tank/sump hook up the hose back to the throttle body too

That's BRILLIANT!!! I want one.

What is it?

Dr S ;)

P.S. Seriously, is it to do with oil pressure/surge issues, and is it really only for track use please?

It's for people who make the move to carbs/bodies, we still need a way for the crankcase piping to breathe so that tank is designed to catch any oil in the vapour and expel the rest through that filter on top hence the term catch tank

nosey bugger arent you ;)

I got the connections from my local plumbing store (for free ;) )

Think they are for shower plumbing or something ( big one 17mm, small 13mm)

Huxley, one connector is from the breather pipe on the filler cap, where do i take the other one from?

It's not just for carbs/bodies, it's for any engine. If you take the basic XU9 - the breather pipes which exit the oil filler are routed back into the inlet track. This is for enviromental reasons mainly. However, I for one don't want a load of oil vapours going directly into my inlet and certainly not into my turbo, so I have fitted a catch tank to collect all the vapour. Mine is even cheaper - a piece of hose, a plastic milk bottle and a couple of cable ties! Best to mount it as far forward in the engine bay as possible (mine is where the jack would normally be) as you tend to get a lot of fumes in the cabin.

It is imperative that the container you use have holes at the top to vent the pressure (with a filter if you are a tree-hugger) otherwise you'll pressurise th oil system, for oil through the crank case and head, pump out loads of black smoke and generally not be good!

You don't or at least i dont, i kept the standard crankcase piping and fillers including the rocker pipe so i only have the one to contend with, dont have problems with oil vapour atm so just slapped a filter on it for now

yeah you are right tekno i just went for the laymans option as it was late <_<

I had a similar thing in a westfield. Driving along on a sunny day you'd see all the fumes coming out of the open hole around the gearlever. So I ran a vent pipe from the top of the tank and along the tunnel to the spare wheel bracket. Then sitting in traffic you'd see a tiny whiff of oily smoke out the pipe in the rear view mirror! Smokey bloody old crossflows!
