yeah it should be flowing in through the hose at the top of the tank, which i believe comes from the throttle body

Could be. Did you flush the new rad out before fitting? If theres a blockage in there it'll stop the flow of the coolant.

does the top and the botton of the rad feel like they are the same temp? The top and bottom hose also? what temp are they feeling?

Just in case you have an air lock in there, take the cap off the header tank, grab a suitable hose with both hands and squeeze it to buggery, repeat over and over again, that will get an air lock shifted for sure.

theromostat? - had a problem with my bmw a couple of months back where it'd be fine at idle but as soon as you drove for about 2 mins the temp guage would missile onto it's way into the red.

Take the radiator out and back flush it throughly. Then back flush the rest of the system by putting the hose into the thermostat housing.

If you want to you can also check the thermostat opens by ploping it in some hot water. If it doesnt open in the hot water its fecked.

You could also try running the engine without the thermostat in there if you suspect that it isnt opening enough. If it doesnt overheat then bobs your monkeys uncle.
