dodsworth_gti 11 Posted September 23, 2006 hmmm will check that out!!! just wondering, the rad i had before was a ally rad,and now this one is a nasty cheap one from a motorfactors, reckon it could be a difference???
Guest BrainFluid Posted September 23, 2006 Could be. Did you flush the new rad out before fitting? If theres a blockage in there it'll stop the flow of the coolant. does the top and the botton of the rad feel like they are the same temp? The top and bottom hose also? what temp are they feeling? Just in case you have an air lock in there, take the cap off the header tank, grab a suitable hose with both hands and squeeze it to buggery, repeat over and over again, that will get an air lock shifted for sure. dodsworth_gti 11 Posted September 23, 2006 lower hose is cooler than the top one!!!! so just put a hose in the header and wash round the full sytem pretty much lol
dodsworth_gti 11 Posted September 25, 2006 right,i have treid everything i can think of now,but i noticed that i had a little bit of steam coming from the oil filler, could this mean that the cylender head has gone(again) and this causeing it to overheat??? thanks ben
RHULPUG 0 Posted September 25, 2006 theromostat? - had a problem with my bmw a couple of months back where it'd be fine at idle but as soon as you drove for about 2 mins the temp guage would missile onto it's way into the red.
Guest BrainFluid Posted September 25, 2006 Take the radiator out and back flush it throughly. Then back flush the rest of the system by putting the hose into the thermostat housing. If you want to you can also check the thermostat opens by ploping it in some hot water. If it doesnt open in the hot water its fecked. You could also try running the engine without the thermostat in there if you suspect that it isnt opening enough. If it doesnt overheat then bobs your monkeys uncle.
