Kennyb 0 Posted September 21, 2006 Doe's anybody know what cause's or how to fix the flicky speedo needle problem that occurs on the old pug??? I've had 3 of them with this problem and haven't found out how to fix it :-( Please help Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

jackherer 543 Posted September 22, 2006 I know there were some threads about with some custom cable heat covering thing or other IIRC one person tried this, they spent in the region of £100 on some heatshield and it made no difference ultimately. If you want a steady speedo in a 205 you need to buy a left hand drive one which has a shorter cable routed in a straight line from the gearbox to the clocks Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I had my clocks out to change a bulb,used a little oil squirted to drip oil into the cable. Use engie oil or similar as it doesnt dry out as fast as WD etc. Lasted a few months, starting to come back now though. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Guest BrainFluid Posted September 23, 2006 Do the Gtis's use a moving cable and not an electro wire for the rev counter then? If its the latter, would using a thicker gauge wire help at all? My Td has a wire for the revs should i consider bypassing the loom with a nice fat wire. Mind you csimply cleaning the contacts would help no end I imagine! mos 1 Posted September 27, 2006 Hi, i am suprised no one has mentioned the plastic gear at the top of the gearbox that the speedo cable mounts in. i my experience the cause of the flicky speedo needle has either been this red plastic gear or the cable itself. in 10+ years of 205 ownership, including repairs to friends and familys cars as well as customers of my friends garage i have never come across a car that after replacing both the speedo gear (about £6 from peugeot) and the speedo cable still had a flicky needle. the new parts have always lasted a good few years as well, even in vehicles covering big miles. miles of flickerless driving!!! thanks mark Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
