c_r_thomson 0 Posted September 21, 2006 I'm fitting twin 40's to my 1.9 8v at the moment and want to know if it's best to leave the ECU in with some connections still in. What is best to leave connected and how much of that injection loom can be removed? Thanks, Craig
smckeown 1 Posted September 21, 2006 there is a carb fitting guide on the main site that describes what to do with the ECU
rescue dude 0 Posted September 22, 2006 I fitted 40's to my 1.9 but left all the wiring dangling as i didn't want to f*** anything up by chopping the wrong wires out. A month or so later i was at my mates garage and was introduced to a mate of his who is an auto electrician. I asked him to chop out all the unnecessary wiring which he did. I was handed a ball of wiring the size of a football and an ecu which was not required. The car runs great and looks much tidier.

I suppose that by defenition if the ecu is coming out, then anything currently connected to it can come out also. I've just had mine converted but the ecu has been left in place haven't been brave enough to take a pair of clippers to it just yet.
mbayley77 0 Posted September 22, 2006 I had no ecu at all on my MI on carbs and now i have the same set up on the gti6 lump on carbs. Agree much less wiring and much tidier.
Dazza 4 Posted September 22, 2006 Ive done a few Carb conversion's on the 205's and the wiring is easier than you'd think its mostly linked to a main wire and there purple ,green and white . If you strip the black loom cover back and trace them you will see just how simple these single pulse loom is to disect safely . there is no rev-limiter now though as the ECU cuts the 12v supply to the injectors to act as a limiter ,not the fuel side as some think . Iam also on with an 205 -S16 on 45's and thats a little more envolved but the system isnt to far removed . Dazza
