Wich Piping Diameter?

Recommended Posts

Bam

hi,

i'm unsure...wich piping diameter would you sugest me?

50mm.... or 60mm ?

1bar stock pressure ~250hp

1,5bar in overboost ~300hp.

50mm would be fit perfect..i think i have a little clearance problem...

cheers mik

Just use what you can fit really... RS500 intercooler is a touch overkill IMO... If 50mm pipe fits best then use that

i'd guess you'd want the same diameter as your throttle body to minimise the bottlenecks in the intake tract?

Im using 2.5" ( 64mm ) on mine , as its the same size as the standard XU10 T. Throttle body and intakes.

50mm for 300hp may be a touch restrictive! But atleast you would have a shorter inlet tract.

forgot something:

i have a custom inlet manifold.TB=85diameter.

has anybody a formula to calculate the perfect boostpressure diameter?

i think, i will winn responsetime (intercooler is very big)

Surely there is a correlation between the diameter of pipe you use and the boost pressure you will create? For example, if you use a small pipe, you will require less air to get a certain boost pressure at the other end than you will if you use a really large pipe?

I'll try to dig out some info that I have on this at home.

I would of thought a larger diameter would help decrease loss of boost

pressure coming from the intercooler.

up to a point, imagine blowing through a straw, then a sink waste pipe, then a drain pipe. the sink waste pipe is most effective, the straw doesnt flow very well, and the drainpipe has too much air in it for the pressure to move it.
