Rear Ride Height Setting - Off The Car

Recommended Posts

kman1600

Hi,

I have the rear beam of my 205GTI currently completely apart for both a rebuild and to fit a thicker ABR, but for the moment retaining the standard springs. My question is 2 fold really, what ride height should I aim for? This is a pure light weight Sprint car. Secondly as the beam is currently in pieces what shock absorber length relates to my desired ride height, if you know what I mean? Would it be better just to build it following the height guidance in the Haynes manual and the measure the final height that gives me and work form there or can I get it close from the start?

Thanks

Tim

If you don't have any rear neg camber then the rear lower than the front apparently works well to improve rear grip. There are plenty of people on here that know loads about suspension...

If the front height is standard, then aim for about 322-325mm distance between shock centers on the rear beam :)

but wouldn't the hight be different for a road vs. race / sprint car. hence my post about rear neg. camber

Thanks for the quick reply, front will he height adjustable and probably set 30 or 40mm below standard. I assume from your note that his would effect what distance you would suggest for the rear?

Does anybody know the ratio of wheel movement to shock movement? or you I need to get the ruler out :D

Thanks

Tim

As a rough guide, 1mm distance between shock centers is about 3mm ride height. 310-312mm would be about right for 35mm lower at the front.
