bitchass 205 0 Posted September 18, 2006 Hi all As above really, i've noticed a strange sort of whinning sound. The engine is nearing the time when it should be done, is this sound i'm hearing the cambelt? or something else? Any help would be much appreciated Michael. Jonmurgie 2 Posted September 18, 2006 Do you know when it was last chaged? If in doubt I say change it anyhow... it 'could' be the water pump your hearing though, a failing cambelt normally won't be heard until it snaps

Thanks. edit: what is best to replace just the cambelt or the whole lot, i.e the water pump as well? Edited September 18, 2006 by bitchass
Jonmurgie 2 Posted September 18, 2006 Well when I bought my 8v I changed just the belt as a matter of course... though if your experiencing some noice issues then it may be best just to do the waterpupm as well, and tensioners.. especially if you intend on keeping the car and don't know when any of that was last changed
Alastairh 47 Posted September 18, 2006 I would do water pump, cambelt and tensioner if the history is not known.
