mos 1 Posted September 16, 2006 (edited) Hi, this may be a silly question but i am going to ask it anyway! are there any drawbacks to the Quaiffe ATB on an everyday road car? the reason i am asking is i have an ongoing issue with my current everyday car with a 1.6box i had rebuilt using one of these ATB Diffs. i had never driven the car without this fitted but for some reason this car insists on pulling to the left even at normal roadspeeds and this resistance to going in a straight line increases at speed. in fact with the wheel set straight for tracking, on the road it always needs to be in 1 o'clock position to drive straight regardless of road type and road camber or road speed etc and at speed the car feels twitchy/edgy i though this may stem from the usual wishbone bushes etc but the car has now has 2 new wishbones with genuine peugeot bushes, new drop links, a new powersteering rack and track road ends etc, shockers and shocker top mounts, new tyres and new brakes and pads all in the last year and 5k of road use! basically everything on the suspension and steering that can be changed has!!! the tracking is set to 0degrees dead straight and the car has a top and bottom strut brace (although i dont see how they could cause this). the car has a skip brown 1.9s engine and dellorto carbs the other night i disconnected the powersteering and removed the ram to ensure this was not the cause of my problems and although it is somewhat less twitchy the pulling to the left persists and the twitchiness is there just masked be heavy steering. what i did notice though (on my own private race track) was the fact that at 90mph when i dropped the clutch the car stopped pulling to the left and went straight which is why i have started to question the diff. i though this might simply be torque steer etc but that would not explain the steering pulling left at low revs/pottering speeds etc i would have though. i am now well and truely stumped any ideas anyoneas i could really do with some help on this one? currently i am about to start swapping bits from one car to another for my new project what i am desperately trying to avoid doing is using anything off my current car on my new car that i am doing an s16 conversion on that is causing this. currently the new car is a standard 1.9 with a normal 1.9 box on injectionand it feels so much more stable on the road particularly at speed and does not pull to the left. so i do not want to upset this if i can thanks stumped.....in mean mark!!! mos 1 Posted September 18, 2006 thanks for that guys i am was hoping it would not be the shell but, that said i bought the shell for £100 a couple of years ago with a duff engine in it. when i was building the car up i noticed that when the engine was out you could clearly see a repair to the offside chasis leg, so its had a fair old wack at some point. i suppose it could also be the subframe for the same reasons. anyway to check the subframe off the car? strangely if it does turn out to be the subframe or the shell itself it will be a relief of sorts as it will mean i can merrily swap all the new bits etc over from my current car to my new car without any fear that i will be bring the problem with me! thanks mark Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
