christopher 5 1 Cars Posted September 14, 2006 (edited) I have a 1,3 Rallye, but think GTi here beacuse it is the same body shell.... I have a 1,9 beam and 14" steelies with 185/60/14. The car is lowered maybe 30->35 mm with standard new shocks I have been driving without the rear arches for a while (so you can see all the holes for mounting) and every time I have 4 people in the car and go over a medium to large bump the tyres scrape on the arches. I'm not sure if it because I don't have bump stops (that I can see anyways) or all lowered GTi's do it Can someone enlighten me as to what I should do. The missus complains no end I was thinking of putting harder shock on but that would hurt my wallet and probably my arse Because I remember what it was like driving with a seized beam Edited September 14, 2006 by christopher
welshpug 1,666 Posted September 14, 2006 check you have bumpstops, if not the trailing arm will travel that bit extra and rub on stuff, jack up the rear and and stick yer head in the wheelarch to see if you can spot where its rubbing.

Tis rubbing on the back edge curve of the body

taylorspug 7 Posted September 14, 2006 If its rubbing on the back edge of the quarter panel its almost certainly bump stops, i had exactly this issue with my car when it had cut down bump stops.

Thanks taylorspug... So what does this mean? I need bump stops or the shocks are too soft? I'm using standard aftermartket shocks. What happens when the car hits the bump stops at speed is the effect dangerous? Its just the back is really low whith two people in the back. But isn't that dues to the strength of the torsion bars?
