Braking Force

After making it through my mot the tester mentioned she was a bit borderline on the front/rear balance, trouble is im running 4 pots so a good friend sugggested i remove the compensators but im wary about this, afterall last thing id want is to swap ends.

 

So has anyone done this and still passed an mot, was any piping made up to fill the gap left?

I run GTi-6 front brakes, standard rears, and no compensators and it's fine - very stable under braking and I've never yet (knowingly) locked up a rear wheel.

i run gti-6 brakes and standard rear disks and ive noticed the backs locking up sometimes before the fronts?

 

its a 406 mc and the front lines are braided.

 

i dint think a 92' 1.9 had compensators? or am i wrong?

All 205 1.9 and 309 GTi's had the same style compensators (one per line) regardless of year, except for the ABS models that had a different style compensator similar to the 306's.

I had a bias valve fitted to my old 309 that used to be fully open (ie. no restriction) all the time.

 

When I had standard brakes the rears would lock with the fronts, which was just about perfect for getting the car stopped ASAP, and meaning you could play with the back end without it ever getting too lary (sp?).

 

Then I fitted GTi-6 fronts. The car had too much front bias, and removed an element of control.

 

In other words, GTi-6 fronts on a 309 with no compensators should be fine for road use. I imagine 4-pots would be fine too. On a 205 things may be a little more marginal.

Cheers for that, i'll get a garage to knock up some piping to replace what gap the compensators filled

 

Im not mad on the front being so heavy, it seems you really can have too much braking, but on a plus don't ever sit behind me as she stops on a sixpence
