Loss Of Power Around 2k / 3k

Recommended Posts

Bassman

I had this problem about a year ago but it went away, just done 2,500 miles through Europe but no problems.

Driving to work this week and it has started having a noticeable loss of power when accelerating, usually in 2nd gear at around 2.5K / 3K. If I floor it it seems to clear and run normally up to the limiter.

I am sure I have read somewhere about this possibly being dizzy related but I search hasn't returned anything. The car has done it both cold and when warmed up and tonight it happened about 10 / 15 times.

Car runs in Super and has a fairly recent fuel filter and I changed the leads, cap and rotor arm before I went to Poland and clocked up 2,500 miles so I am certain these are ok.

Any suggestions?

mine is similar but not to that extent, only noticed it over the last few weeks, at bout 2750-3000 power dies a little, most noticible in 2nd 3rd n 4th. Doesnt seem to do it when warm. And also only happens at half throttle, it may have a dip at full throttle, but its not noticable. Gonna check igniotion timing soon, see if it makes any difference.

Also my head has been skimmed 2x so will a slightly higher CR, is it benificial to advance or reatard the ignition a few degrees to go with the increased CR? or just set to normal?

Thanks.

Henry.

Air flow meter??

What are you suggesting? Could the vane be sticking, is this a known issue?

Be worth checking that your vacuum advance is working properly.

And yes, could be the AFM hitting a bit of dodgy track. It's a common spot for the AFM to "sit" in normal driving so a clean and retrack may well do the trick.

There are loads of threads on vacuum advance problems (one very recently) and a similar number of threads about AFMs and how to clean and retrack them.

Had the same problem and was gnition amp. Search for a thread I started called "my car doesn't like 3-3.5K" or something like that.

Well surprise, surprise, it has stopped doing it! I'm going to take the car off the road soon and I need to change the bushes on the alternator and sort out the sticking starter so I may as well strip the ignition system out and give the connections a good clean up.

I will try some new thermal paste between the ignition module and the metal plate it bolts to, but as it has caused me grief from cold, I don't think it is a thermal issue.
