Just Acquired An Odd Squeak

Recommended Posts

coombsfh

Today I rounded a left hand, downhill bend and upon straightening up i noticed an odd squeaky noise eminating from the rear driver's side wheel. It sounds distinctly like rubber on metal but i fear it could be the rear beam which creaks like a smacked bitch.

Please advise,

all help appreciated,

Fred

Hi Fred,

Take a look around the back of the car on level ground and see how the rear is sitting. All straight and level?. What about the angle of the wheels as viewed from the rear of the car, any excessive camber?

Take both rear wheels off and support on axle stands, as you jack the car see if both sides move down properly without any jerky movements. With the wheels off and the car safely supported get your head and a torch in there and see if anything has been rubbing.

If the beam (not the handbrake) has been 'creaking' I guess it's starting to tell you its time for a rebuild. Do you know its history, if original then will need refurbing to some extent by now.
