westy 0 Posted September 11, 2006 morning, Recently the rear end of my '90 1.6 has started creaking like hell - whenever I reverse down my drive (its on a hill) whenever I get in the car etc etc However, there's not a single bit of camber on the rear wheels. Could my beam be knackered? Cheers
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted September 11, 2006 Yes, just because there isn't any signs of camber doesn't mean the beam is Ok. Try pushing on the hatch & see if it coincides with you doing this, you might find that one side of the beam is starting to seize. Also try jacking the rear of the car & looks for the arms dropping the same amount. Graham.
westy 0 Posted September 11, 2006 Cheers for moving the thread Tried pushing on the back, there's no creaking at all.
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted September 11, 2006 Try adjusting the boot rubber stops, if it is just resting on the lock plate it will make lots of noise. Graham.
westy 0 Posted September 11, 2006 I'm not the most mechanically minded, how would I go about adjusting these?
Ren 0 Posted September 11, 2006 Open the tailgate and you will see a rubber bumpstop on each side, just unscrew them slightly to wind them out and stop it rubbing. HTH. Ren.
westy 0 Posted September 12, 2006 right, tried adjusting the bump stops, nothing's changed. It creaks when you push down on the back of the car with the boot open.. ideas?
bitchass 205 0 Posted September 12, 2006 erm, can't answer your problem but my rear beam creaks like hell when ever i get out and have parked on a hill, i try not to use the handbrake because sometimes it sticks. However if i push down on it it doesn't creak at all. Alas, the rear beam is fecked though, bad camber and scrubbing on nearside
