Query About Rear Beam

Recommended Posts

I have resigned myself to getting a new rear beam but on checking the car i think i may need new shocks too. when i push on the suspension one side just doesnt bounce or move or anything the othe bounces a little. just wondering if the shocker is dead

More then likely a seized beam if you say it needs replacing anyhow... are you running standard shocks?

As said sounds more like a seized beam to me. Maybe try disconnecting the shocks and trying to bounce the car again, if it still doesnt move one side, its the beam seized. :D

it does move but there is no spring if i jack it up the wheel drops. then i release the jack it just sits there. if i then push down it moves down but then stays down there

Again sounds like the beam is knackered to me, usually dampers go 'soft' when they are knackered, so would not be affecting the car in the way you have described (instead the rear of the car would take ages to settle after going over a bump).

What it probably is is the bearing in that side of the beam starting to seize up due to water ingress causing rust between the bearing and the trailing arm shaft, and all the grease having been flushed out. Best thing to do is get a decent beam or rebuild your current item before the damage gets any worse. :D
