Fuel Pump Failure

Recommended Posts

Powers

Yesterday my fuel pump packed in without any warning at all. The engine died immediately, it didnt even cough or splutter.

So i have just finished changing the fuel pump and No.11 fuse (10 amp) and checked all the wiring to the ecu (its a Mi16).

So my question is would the fuel pump failure case the fuse to go or is something else amiss?

Cheers.

Just because it isn't pumping doesn't mean it is the pump, it could be the supply to the pump. Worth testing this.

Not sure a dead pump will always take out a fuse though, quite likely but couldn't guarantee it.

Try connecting the fuel pump you removed directly to a battery and see if it runs, if it does work without drawing too much current then it wasn't to blame and there's a fault in the wiring... to find out how much current it is drawing connect an ammeter in series with the pump.

Have you checked the fuel pump relay and the injector relay? I had a fuel pump one die on me before. Following the wiring back from the injectors and you should find them both, square shape, inch wide in every direction. Can check the fuel pump by removing the relay if faulty and tripping out 2 of the 5 pins with a bit of wire but not sure which 2 it is off the top of my head
