phat205 0 Posted September 7, 2006 My pug has decided that when i want to drive it hard, its not interested, it coughs a couple of times an spitts massive flames out of the exhaust. I've replaced the distributor, coil, coil pack, changed the oil etc. nothing has worked, just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same sort of problem, Its an all alloy Mi16 and was build for ¼ mile sprints. using 45 weber carbs, race cams, vernier pullies, longman bottom end, longman exhaust etc. etc. There is also a Nitrous kit fitted to it but its hardly ever used. Can anyone reccomend anything before i have to completly rebuild the engine to find any small problems Cheers Matt
Rob_the_Sparky 9 Posted September 7, 2006 Well clues: The fact that it spits flames indicates that you are either getting so much fuel it is flooding or there is no spark to burn the fuel going through. Under load you need a stronger spark, does you system have an ignition amplifier? Not sure what ignition system you are using. Rob

Rob I thick it is an amplified ignition, but this has all been recently replaced. It does use alot of fuel but i've always put that down to the performance. (297 BHP) hence the 5 MPG I'm going to get the plugs and leads off and check them tomorrow. Cheers Rob, Matt

phat205 0 Posted September 8, 2006 an Mi16 running 297 bhp?? believe me whatever you do it'll spit flames sounds like you're running BTCC spec or a turbo... No Turbo here. It was built for ¼ mile sprints, it scares the crap out of me and scooby P1's etc. It used to through a couple of flames after backing off from full trottle and when changing gear close the its 8500rpm red line, but nothing like the ones at present, were talking 2 foot wide and over the roof of the car. proper fire

Rob_the_Sparky 9 Posted September 11, 2006 Carb tuning? I don't know much about webers but have heard they need tuning quite regularly and you must be putting quite bit of fuel down the exhaust on the overun to get flames like that. Rob
