Gavin Waddell 18 Posted September 6, 2006 going to install 1.9 set up on the rear of my car 1.6 gti and i need to know what calipers will fit a 205 rear beam and do they fit onto the 1.6gti stub axel or do i need to change it for a 1.9 jobbie.
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted September 6, 2006 Easiest is to swap it for a complete 1.9 beam as you need lots of bits from the radius arm end to fit everything, stub axles, caliper mounting brackets etc. Try a search as the full swap has been covered lots before. taylorspug 7 Posted September 7, 2006 You can get away with fitting the 1.9 hubs onto the 1.6 stub axles, but the bearings overhang the stubs slightly. I know of people that have run like this for years with no problems with either the bearing or the stub axle. But in the end that is a bit of a bodge which i certainly wouldnt do, so i personally wouldnt advise you to do it either! What condition is the beam in? Does it need a rebuild? If so maybe the best idea would be to try and find a decent 1.9 beam with good trailing arm shafts and do the conversion using that, as Graham has already said.
