huzzer 0 Posted September 6, 2006 I need to check the temp sensor as it is a suspect in the running rich problem. Does anybody know how to foolproofly test that it is working fully? Is there a specific voltage to the sensor? Any advice would be most appreciated!
Rob_the_Sparky 9 Posted September 6, 2006 Yep, replace it!
huzzer 0 Posted September 6, 2006 Is that the only way? I checked with GSF and they quoted £16 for a new sensor. Seems a bit steep but i'll take your word for it Rob. Do you think this could be a good reason for rich running?
paul205mi16 4 Posted September 6, 2006 im also interested in a suitable test for this sensor.
Rob_the_Sparky 9 Posted September 6, 2006 It is easy to test if it is completely buggered but then your car would be barely running. I have had some improvements by replacing but the difference involtages are hard to check accurately due to a: a lack of design data on the sensor and b: not knowing what temperature the engine is at. If you have a gross error then it will seriously over fuel, e.g. it sees a temp of approx -40C! Free things to look at are cleaning the AFM, checking the state of all the breather pipes, setting the ignition timing for the fuel in use (if it is a 1.9 then I would not recommend running 95RON unleaded). Some also say cleaning the throttle body is worthwhile but not sure this can change mixture. The ECU temp sensor can cause rich running though so you aren't wide of the mark, it is just VERY hard to check unless it is coimpletely buggered. Rob Oh, that is assuming that it isn't just running rich at tick-over and you haven't found the mixture adjust on the AFM yet (only adjusts idle mixture)
