What amp drain are the amps....these should be in the manual somewhere.

Personally i'd say run 2 seperate power lines, (1 to each) remember to fuse them close to the battery, and to have the remote on cable connected or else you'll have a flat battery pretty quickly.

If you want to run one power cable get a distribution block, as these will be fused as well. Just for your protection as much as the car.

get a distribution block then if you ever wanna run another amp you wont have to run another power cable through the hole car just alot easier. looks tiedy as well imo

base amplifiers tend to start with a fuse rating of 40amps. so if you do use a 35amp cable, there is a chance that the wire will melt before the fuse blows.

before i knew better, i used to use thinner power cable recommended by "experts" that was supposedly up to the job. after haveing the stereo turned up for a while, this cable was more than warm to the touch, which shows how good it actually was.

on a sound quality note, use the biggest cable you can get. you will notice the difference. 4 gague power cable is the mimimum i will ever use now for an amp.

I'm no expert, but to work out the amp rating you just divide the watts (power) by the volts (12).

So, if you had a 1000 watt peak power amp, it will need 83 amps to run + 20% safety margin = 100 amp cable, or thereabouts.

I'm sure the experts out there will soon shoot me down :)

Mark.

Easiest way of doing it is look at the fuse on the amp! If its got one 30amp fuse, or 2x20amp fuses then obviously you'd want to use a power cable of a larger gauge then the max fuse rating. As others have said, ive always fitted a fat old 4 gauge down the car with a distribution block on the end, then you can tap as many (suitable) power connections off of there that you like!

8 gauge will normally be rated enough to cope with this amp. (assumption of 400w)

I was looking at buying the cable on its own (price per metre) but it worked out cheaper to get the amp kit.

You need to give the RMS output of the amp for anyone to make a good call on it though.

4 gauge will be more ethan enough, but, its going to be a sod to fit down the side of the car.

You though are a nutter..... :D

And, i didnt want to rip all my carpet up to put the cables in.

What sort of output do you have in yours to run 0 gauge cables? Last time i used that sort of size was for a 2kw system.

Currently around 800Wrms, but it's a job I only wanted to do once, so I went oversize to cover my planned upgrades (circa 1.3KW)

Plus bigger cable means less voltage drop along such a length. I'm still getting over 14Volts at the amps, which is nice :D
