Radiator Light On At Rev Limit

Recommended Posts

Livelee

I've got a 309 mi16 and when the car is at or near to max revs (7k) a red light on the dash comes on. It looks like a radiator.

What does this mean?

Thanks

Dan

Lol, I get that too, 1.6 205 though.

Not a clue why lol.

That warning light is the 'low coolant level' light.

Possibly at that high rpm, the water pump is pushing the water round so much that the level in the expansion tank drops enough to trigger the warning light??

That's got to be it mate, cheers. I've just put a 205TD RAD in my car so drained and replaced the water. I guess it's not got enough in.

either low coolant or possibly interference from the ht leads.

Our 309 does it under acceleration but on steady revs doesn't - sure its a loose connection/wire being tugged.

Having said that its being broken soon so we aren't worried even if it does pop.

If your car is a phjse 2 with the black expansion tank I'd bet on it being;

interference from the ht leads.

Had it on mine when I still had the dizzy fitted along with several other people. Only happens at high revs usually.

Route the HT leads as far away from the sensor in the bottom of the expansion tank as you can & it should vanish.

Graham.

had thison a ph2 also

turned out to be a pinhole in the thin pipe that runs from under the throttle body leaking due to engine movement and rubbing on the rad

eventually split and pissed out water all over the rad!

mucho steam!

I had something similar to this in my phase two. I bought a replacement coolant level sensor and when I took the old one out one of the two prongs looked like a lollipop and both crumbled when I touched them. Light has not even flickered, yet.

Ive seen this a few times on phase two's under heavy acceleration. Every time ive cured it by disconnecting the sensor and drowning it in wd40. Think its due to a dry joint or poor connection/contact.
