gti_al 1 Posted September 2, 2006 Trying to fit some phase 2 doorcards to a Phase 1 car, and noticed that the thing that goes up and down when you lock/unlock the car is different. How do you get the fat early one off? I've been looking for a while, and i can't really see inside the door properly... did a search and came up with heaps of topics on hinge pins. Also, is it possible to remove the thin pins from another car, or should i just get some new ones from pug? Any pointers would be appreciated.

Any pointers would be appreciated. im still in the process at the moment doing mine. ive got one side off. i couldnt find a way of getting it off so in the end i just pulled it up and snapped the outer casing then the actualthing that goes up and down will be able to come off by turning it either to the left or right as the actual metal isnt straight. what ive ofund to is that if you straighten the metal pin after getting the plastic thing off then its still too short for the phase 2 plastic. so it might just be easyer to undo the metal pin from the lock and lift the whole lot out. you can get the phase 2 pins from a saxo/106 and 205's not sure about others. should imagine they come off much easier if you just take the metal pin out of the lock also. dont bother going to pug unless you cant find the metal rods anywhere
gti_al 1 Posted September 2, 2006 (edited) Thanks for that. In the interests of making my car a little more habitable i have just snapped the old pins off, (pretty dodgy) and fitted the doorcards. As the central locking is working fine (atm) i don't really need the pins, but if i decide i do i can always fit them later... I can't believe how much better it looks now - it makes the interior feel so much more modern! Edited September 2, 2006 by gti_al
timmsy19 3 Posted September 3, 2006 exactly what i did but didnt have my central locking working so had to unlock both sides by key
gti_al 1 Posted September 17, 2006 I just went to put everything in properly, and it looks like the door handles are slightly different. (the early ones seem a bit small) Is that normal?
timmsy19 3 Posted September 17, 2006 the only thing i found diffrent was the small internal pin that goes from the plastic pin to the lock. you will need to get a set of those also as tryin to straighten them i a mission.
