aldo56 0 Posted August 31, 2006 Ive just finished getting my 1600-1900 convo on my 205. The car was running a bit rought so i got the timing looked at by a local garage, they set it to the book which i think is 10 degrees. This seemed not so good however and we played about a bit untill it ran a bit better. Does anyone have experience with this and know what to set it at for optimum performance or does it vary from car to car? im currently running a piper x filter and superchipped ecu (soon to be binned) also does anyone know if these are any good or if its better just to go for the shortened L bracket. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PEUGEOT-205-309-GTI-...1QQcmdZViewItem thanks allan
Jonmurgie 2 Posted August 31, 2006 I don't know what the standard timing is for the 205 as I've always set the timing on the dyno... but you could do it on the road I guess. It's just a case of adjusting it and driving it on full throttle to see how it feels/sounds. I've always set the timing so that there is slight pinking when in a low gear and you floor the throttle... that should mean that when you get to 4.5k and above teritory there should be no pinking. It's really easy to do this on a dyno as you can be driving the car at speed and under load and simply swing the dizzy round and literally SEE the bhp increase on screen... my first 1.9 8v was done like this and I saw 12bhp being found by the correct timing! No idea about the short shift BTW, only ever used the L type ones (or rather the GE version)
aldo56 0 Posted August 31, 2006 ah if only we all had a rolling road !!!! i might end up splashing out and going to one!! yeh basicaly im getting it set to factory spec and marking the dizzy then goin out feelign what its like then moving it a "bawhair" and trying again. trial and error basicaly! jimbean 0 Posted August 31, 2006 or a cheaper and easyer way would be find a really long hill.. slacken dissy nuts just enough so it can be turned by hand... go up hill in high gear.. 4/5 play with dissy till u get slight pink al low revs full load full throttle then back off smidge and tighten nuts back up.. hey presto.. 100 quid saved and timing set..just make sure u are going up the hill and not down... Miles 331 1 Cars Posted August 31, 2006 Timing on the Dizzy can be done by trial and error road testing, Advance the ignition to the point of pinking under load for max power or re-tard it for better MPG. The quickshift is the one to have, Allot better than the 'L' subframe mount thing, It's what mine used to be like but there undergoing a redesign at the moment
