Aftermarket Tachometer - Triggered From Ecu

Recommended Posts

I'll try this forum as the engine management one was probably not the right choice. :)

There's a host of info on here about modifying original equipment tachos and using 3rd party drivers, but can anyone suggest a reasonably priced aftermarket tacho that will work with the standard Motronic 3.2 ECU fitted to my S16. Mounting isn't important as my race car is not fitted with std dashboard. Suppliers I've spoken to so far have been unsure and have queried whether the ECU signal is 12v or 5v.

Thanks

Jon

May be of use...

When I ran my S16 standard in my 205, I had to use a 'convertor' from Spoox to get the right signal.

Although this is only a simple circuit, I didn't know what would be in the little black box.

This may be of use, I have seen people use a coil pack instead of coil per plug to overcome this too.....

Thanks - but as I have to buy a tacho anyway (no dash panel fitted to race car) - I was hoping that I may get one that takes its signal from the ecu, without any additional complications.

Cheers

Jon

Why not take one from the original/donor car and make up a mount for it some where.

Unfortunately I dont have the original - so as I have to buy one anyway I just thought it would easier to get an aftermarket one which makes panel mounting a neater solution.

Take your point though.
