Diesel Turbo Mi16

Recommended Posts

mbayley77

Well I have the bottom end from a 306 diesel turbo. The head from a mi16 1.9. And loads of stuff from a 1.6 8v.

Is there anything that can be built as a total hybrid? Is there anything that bits can be used in to make a nice little power lump?

Suggestions on a post card. Anything goes and a long winter ahead.

:P

in a simple word.... NO! For starters the valves would interfere with the pistons and you can't modify the pistons, as the crown is designed to create masses of turbulence.

You might aswell buy a HDI-16 as even converting a XUD 8 valve to 16v would be difficult enough.

Sorry misleading - i want to make it petrol running not diesel. I have heard lots of talk about using different pistons and cranks etc - sure i read somewhere about diesel cranks etc. 8V block, 16v head, diesel crank???

Anything really. there must be something better about each item over the others.???

still no good ...the piston tops are different... the dt will have lower compression due to the turbo .. and a mi likes compression and as the last post mentioned the un modified dt pistons will also hit the valves so all in all it`s a no

Ive heard rumours the XU9 diesel crank is actually the Mi16 crank. Could well be wrong though.....

yes, but no, the turbo block runs less compression than the non turbo but youre talking 21.8-1 instead of 23-1. :)

as opposed to the 10.5 that a std Mi16 runs.

IIRC use a Diesel crank in a 2.0 to create a long stroke 2.1, with the poterol pistons of course.

Now we are getting somewhere :)

Keep em coming.

the diesel has the same bore and stroke of the mi16. providing you could get the mi16 cam belt tensioners to work on the diesel block all you would need is mi16 pistons and rids and bolt it all together. You would need to use diesel head bolts as the mi16 ones are the wrong thread.

Jobs a guddun!
