driversdomainuk 8 Posted August 30, 2006 Hi Just to make sure my garage dont play silly buggers with me, what would you estimate the cost for a brake servo unit and how many hrs labour would be needed to fit...?? Currently can't find a price for these anywhere and want to get an approx price before I do anything else. PS - I will be replacing it along with all the brake pipes and the Master Cylinder, as part of my full brake overhaul. thanks
jackherer 543 Posted August 30, 2006 eurocarparts have them for £99.75 + vat
driversdomainuk 8 Posted August 30, 2006 Thats a bit more than I was expecting. Does anyone have any issues with these..? I do want to make sure the braking system is fully sorted.. what about labour - mate of mine thinks they could fit it, in around 2 hours.
Jonmurgie 2 Posted August 30, 2006 Couple of hours fitting is about right... bit of a faff around the pedals with all the carpet/dash in. As to whether it's necessary, personally unless the unit is faulty then don't bother as they don't seem to be that problematic on the 205. Just uprate the M/C and leave it at that, saving yourself a couple of hunderd ££ as well

Dont worry - I dont have any carpet and the dash may be going soon! when you say uprate the MC - do you think changing it for a standard one or an uprated one..? If an uprated one which would you recommend...? thankyou Edited August 30, 2006 by driversdomainuk
Jonmurgie 2 Posted August 30, 2006 Well you don't HAVE to uprate it... but if you were buying a new one then you might as well fit a slightly bigger one, either off a GTi6 or a 406 (forget which model). Try a seach as the M/C upgrade has been covered a fair bit before
smckeown 1 Posted August 30, 2006 you do all that work yourself, it's not very difficult. As advised the servo's generally work or they don't, so no need for a new one if you have no pressure. Unless the M/C has a current problem, upgrade it when/if you go larger brakes

Did you manage this increased CR by fitting the 1.6 pistons alone or did you have to take the head off and have it skimmed..? Justy thinking it will be cheaper fitting 1.6 pistons as opposed to taking the head off as I am changing the pistons soon anyway cheers
smckeown 1 Posted August 30, 2006 I don't know the exact details to be honest. Plenty of people like petert and QEP/mattsav could advice on how exactly to achieve a given CR. I have learned that the 1.6 pistins help increase the CR, and that decking the block and liners is the next best thing. Even though skimming the head is the easiest it's not the best (you should be able to search and get some posts on this) was to get an increased CR cheers sean
