Refitting Gearbox..need Sealant ?

Recommended Posts

I'm changing Gav's box this weekend, following jon's guide (thumbs up).

Other than fitting new oil seals, do you also need sealant to mate the surfaces of the box and bottom ? I have seen blue sealant used before ?

cheers

sean

You don't need sealant between the engine block and the gearbox if that's what you're saying? You should put some sealant between the diff casing and the gearbox if you've removed the diff for any reason, but for a straight geabox swap you shouldn't need any :P

Blue hylomar between the diff housing and speedo housing possibly. Apply thinly with a very thin paintbrush, you put less on that way and there's less to bulge out after!
