welshpug 1,666 Posted August 29, 2006 lol, I used a sledge too haha, makes a right racket smacking the end of a big long spring!! have you taken the offset washer out of the hole where the torx bolt was?
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted August 30, 2006 Christ, I;ve had a good 10+ ton's of pressure on some of these before they pop, Even hitting the living daylights out of them didn;t work. Soak it in WD40 and try hitting it hard you might be in luck
sonofsam 5 Posted August 30, 2006 Dont be afraid to use a little heat to make certain parts expand. If beam is off the car! ..Waiting for everyone to scream 'well i've never had to use heat to get a beam apart' But it works on stuck torsion bars.
welshpug 1,666 Posted August 30, 2006 yup, heat up the trailing arm not the torsion bar, cool it rapidly (lots of water via hosepipe) repeat a few times then while its still hot smack it! we do this at work to move stuck seatposts as a last resort if pentrating graphite spray doesnt work (though it usually does unless its been stuck for years...) mishu 0 Posted August 30, 2006 yup, heat up the trailing arm not the torsion bar, cool it rapidly (lots of water via hosepipe) repeat a few times... Doesn't that affect the integrity of the torsion bar? I was planning to burn the bushes of my rear beam, but was afraid I would damage the beam. BTW, I don't have a burner, so I was thinking of putting the end of the beam in the fire.
sonofsam 5 Posted August 30, 2006 Nah I only use gentle heat on the TB housing. Its not like your annealing it or anything! Rothenberger do a small soldering/plumbing blow lamp ideal for burning bushes out with.
brianthemagical 1 Posted August 30, 2006 thanks for the help. surly heating the cross tube is a better idea, other wise the radius arm will expand and increase the resistance in the cross tube? where abouts is the best place to hit it? i'll have some weetabix for breakfast tomorow and have another go.
